In Shades of Mercy, Mercy– the main character– grows up as best friends with Mick. Mercy was a white farm girl and Mick was a Maliseet Indian, but they never cared that they were from different background.

While this was fine when they were children, as they grew older it became unacceptable in the eyes of many in their town, who discriminated against the Maliseet. However, people like Mercy and her parents stood up for the marginalized Native Americans in various ways, becoming very influential in the community. Michele Forrider, our Audience Development Manager, was part of the creation of this trailer, and gave us some behind-the-scenes insights on what goes into the making of a video like this.

What was most fun about making the trailer?

Getting to work on the concept with our videographer and brainstorm the best ways to communicate the story without giving too much away. Not only is it fun to talk about the concept, but on the trailer for The Turning, we were able to scope out locations & talk to different actors.
